Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. Blurred imperfections. Photoshop effect. Smooth complexion. Can it really be achieved? With the right tools and products, of course it can! I've been using a few Hourglass products lately, and while I was worried that they may have been overhyped, I find myself quite pleased with the results. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette was, at first, too pretty to touch, but I got over it, because my need for a photoshopped face was greater. Ya hear? Mmhhmm.
HOURGLASS AMBIENT LIGHTING PALETTE
The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette consists of three powder formulations, Dim Light, Incandescent Light, and Radiant Light. All three powders are soft, smooth, and so light.
Dim Light has a peach tone meant to be used as an all over face powder to set your foundation, and it provides a soft focus effect that looks as if you're being cast under a "dim light". It is very flattering and leaves a soft glow without looking shimmery. I like to apply this with a big fluffy brush to the sides of my face after I've applied Diffused Light (review coming soon) all over my face.
Incandescent Light has a pearly finish and is meant to be used as a highlighter that provides a soft and subtle highlight that isn't too shimmery. I apply this with a small fluffy brush to the tops of my cheekbones and the high points of my face.
Radiant Light has a deeper golden-beige tone that can be used as a defining bronzer to add contrast and definition. I like to apply this with an angled blush brush to the hollows of my cheeks and around the sides of my face to create a softly bronzed look.
All the powders in the Ambient Lighting Palette work well together and on their own, and they last all day without shifting, which is essential for the hot summer days. For the fall and winter season, these powders can create the appearance of a more luminous complexion despite the dry winter weather.
At $58 (Hourglass), you get your money's worth with three different powders (3.3g each) and a high quality finish. If you're in the market for a high end multi-purpose palette, I definitely recommend looking into this. As always, try to go into a store and have a swatch fest to see if this is your kind of product.
